Without fail when the Atlanta weather heats up, I find myself looking for restaurants that offer three things: lighter menu options, delectable cocktails and the al fresco option of outdoor dining. Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse located at Phipps Plaza in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta gets high scores on all three. Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of trying out Davio’s spring menu of seasonal, lighter fare and trust me – save the hearty stews and heavier meals for winter and check out what Davio’s is dishing up this season.
For the first dish, we were served a beautifully plated Murray’s Cheese Burrata. Burrata is a very delicate cheese with a soft, creamy texture and mild taste. Davio’s version was served over smoked prosciutto, focaccia toast and topped with diced, ripe cantaloupe and drizzled with aged balsamic vinaigrette creating a burst of complex flavors with each bite.
Our next dish showcased the Italian specialty of hand-rolled potato gnocchi over a savory lemon butter sauce with fresh spring peas and meaty morel mushrooms. The shavings of aged parmesan cheese added a savory complexity to the dish making it my favorite of the evening.
For the main course, I opted for the halibut served in a delicate broth of with tender chunks of Maine Lobster and white asparagus. The halibut was seared perfectly for my taste, and while I wish there had been a few more bits of lobster to accompany each flaky bite of the halibut, I was pleasantly pleased with the overall flavor and portion of the dish.
For dessert we were served a light and creamy vanilla bean panna cotta with fresh strawberries which proved to be a delightful ending to the meal. Overall, we had a satisfying feast that boasted the amazing flavors of the season.
Tip: When dining out during the summer months, opt for dishes that have complex flavor profiles instead of dishes with larger portions. The layers of flavor will satisfy your palate without being too heavy.
