Southern Art, located in Buckhead’s Intercontinental Hotel, serves up beautiful decor from floor to ceiling, entertainment most nights with live music adjacent to the restaurant and fancy southern favorites.
Southern Art does have outdoor dining but you want to dine inside with the beautiful well appointed leather seats, dark woods and ceiling art.
I just tried their fall menu which is available for a bit longer. The last time I visited Southern Art, I couldn’t resist ordering a Bourbon cocktail, Pretty Brown Eyes. Topped with wine, it was terrific. Sadly, it is no longer on the menu. Instead I went for an good old Pimm’s Cup and Southern Art’s version did not disappoint.

A starter of Beef Tartare was delicious, especially with the creamy mustard for dipping. Also on the starter menu are Braised Oxtails served with Butternut Squash Risotto. However, you can get the entree portion for an upcharge, which I opted to do. Though the meat is extremely tender, similar to a pot roast, you will have to work for your dinner. Oxtails have a lot of fat on them. I found the work worth it, but you may not if you are in a business setting. The portion is gigantic too. My leftovers made for another huge meal the next day.

Southern Art’s answer to charcuterie is a “Ham Bar” and boy do they have a selection. Their are about 10 choices of ham ranging in price from $6-$11. As you can see in the picture above, Southern Art is very generous with their ham portions, but not nearly so with the mustard. Ask for more mustard as soon as they set the tray down. A nice touch is labeling the ham varieties. So often a servers points out the charcuterie items when the plate is set down and if you are like me, you’ve forgotten as soon as they walk away.

A Cobia and Clams which was a special on my last visit is not a regular on the menu. New for the fall menu is a Pork Shank. This delicious piece of pork had a wonderful crispy texture on the outside, giving way to a moist and flavorful center. This is a must order for at least one in your party.

If you go, promise me you’ll order the 12-layer red velvet cake (so worth the calories)! Southern Art is a terrific choice if you are in Buckhead and want to enjoy a cocktail in an upscale setting or a wonderful spot for a date night! Tip: They validate self parking. Yes, self parking. That’s a refreshing change. No need to mess with the valet if you don’t want to. And you can linger as they validate for 3 hours!
