Sun in My Belly’s Supper Club

Posted by

I’ve long been a fan of Sun in My Belly. The hardware store turned restaurant has a kitschy decor with a low key vibe. They serve delicious coffee drinks and decadent breakfast, brunch and lunch options. The Kirkwood breakfast of scrambled eggs with Boursin cheese, the rich Challah French toast with ricotta and berries are two of my breakfast / brunch favorites. At lunch I love the cumin-spiked hummus or the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich with Pimento cheese. So, when I found out that Sun in My Belly had started a Supper Club, I already knew I was gonna love it.

Sun in My Belly’s Supper Club is available nightly (except Monday), and can be purchased as a delicious four-course meal for $35.00 per guest, or can be purchased a la carte. The menu changes weekly. No booze is served, but guests are welcome to bring in their own with no corkage fee. And guess what? Servers will open your bottle, put it on ice if necessary, and make sure your glass is never empty. In full disclosure, I was treated to Sun in My Belly’s four-course meal complimentary, but I would return again and again as I feel the four-course meal is a terrific value.

Our first course was a Butternut Squash Lasagna. It was also the best of all the courses. The Butternut Squash was in essence the “pasta” part of this Lasagna. The cheese and mushrooms mixed in were the perfect compliment to the dish. But it didn’t end there. There was also a pesto garnish that came with it, and I scooped up some with each bite.

Next was a salad of asparagus and peas. The salad was decent but it was the buttermilk tarragon vinaigrette that made it outstanding. What a lovely dressing. Sounds simple enough to mix up at home.

The main course was Harissa marinated lamb loin skewers with quinoa and grilled vegetables. I love lamb, but even if you don’t, it wasn’t overly gamey tasting as lamb can sometimes be. It was a terrific pairing with the quinoa vs. rice as lamb is often paired with.

Dessert didn’t disappoint – Lavender Lemon Bars were the perfect finish to our fabulous meal. They didn’t leave us feeling too heavy, but just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth. Don’t miss out on the coffee either – Dancing Goats.

Sun in My Belly’s Supper Club is a terrific idea for a romantic date but is equally as fun for a group outing. Apologies to all the couples around us for our group of 15 if we were too loud. What can I say? We get really excited about food this good. And at only $35 per person, it would be difficult to find food this tasty at these prices. Please go and support Sun in My Belly, y’all, you won’t be disappointed.
