First Bite and I met up for lunch a while ago (read: several months ago). I suggested we check out Young Augustine’s located downtown. The small restaurant / bar on the outskirts of Downtown is an unexpected find in the area. Young Augustine’s has 30 beers on tap, however, we didn’t indulge as it was noon on Monday, a little early in the week to start drinking mid-day.
For starters, the Pork Belly Sliders and the Shrimp-Scallion Pancakes with oyster sauce caught my eye. I gave Jessica the choice and she went with the sliders. Wow are these delicious! The kimchee on top and buns all make for perfect bite after perfect bite. I would venture back to Young Augustine’s for those alone.
For mains we choose the Short Rib Grilled Cheese and the Chicken Sandwich. My Short Rib didn’t disappoint. It was chock full of meat and had not only muenster cheese but pimento cheese as well. And the Arugula component just made it even better. I had a bite of Jessica’s chicken sandwich as well. It was hot and spicy, so much so, that the extra Jalapenos on top were too much for her. I thought it was tasty, but were I craving a spicy chicken sandwich, I’d head over to Chik-fil-a before I drove downtown for that.
The fries that came with our food were pretty disappointing. They are advertised as duck fries (fried in duck fat). This no doubt raises the bar a little in expectations, and we both felt that the fries fell short. They were crispy but didn’t deliver as much as you would expect from duck fries. Service, however, was friendly and cheerful 🙂
