5Church Atlanta [sexy date night guaranteed]

Hailing from Charlotte, NC, 5Church is very particular about the decor in their restaurants. The artist hired to paint the ceiling spent two and a half months painstakingly working away to create what you see below. Pick 5Church if you are looking for exceptional cuisine a sexy spot for date night.

Although decor isn’t exactly the same from one restaurant to another, 5Church is very big on the black and white color scheme owner, Ayman Kamel, told me when I visited 5Church last month.  All lighting fixtures are imported from Europe. Special feathered lights loom over the bar, while the dome shaped lamps have a beautiful leaf pattern stamped inside. The black leather booths and chairs are comfy. So comfy, in fact, you may find it hard to get up after a filling meal and several glasses of wine.  I appreciate that 5Church provides ample spacing from table to table, enabling a fair amount of private conversations with your dining companions.

L: Pigtail Croquettes, R: House made Buratta with spiced honey and basil

The menu is divided into Snacks, First Course, Main Course and Steaks. Buratta with spiced honey was bursting with floral notes. Pastrami cured hamachi was the most unique dish that evening. Paired with red mole, radishes, limes and corn nuts, I’d call it seafood charcuterie. Listed under the First Course, it is good to balance out the Heirloom Tomato Salad (pictured below).

However, I loved the Squid Ink calamari with generous portions of both calamari and lump crab. If you are a crab fan, besides a luscious squid ink dish, the  Lump Crab was incredible and pairing it with seaweed was a fantastic touch. First Course plates at 5Chruch average around $13 each. Three or four will do for a meal and you’ll leave feeling like you’ve really explored the menu without dropping a ton of cash.

Menu items are rather diverse as well. Besides a lamb burger, there’s scallops, Whole Roasted Fish (see below), smoked duck and of course, the signature Wagyu steak. It’s lovely and certain stands up to the best steaks you’ll find in Atlanta, but a 4 oz cut (the minimum you can get) is $60. It’s Wagyu, so it’s priced accordingly.

Redfish at 5Church in Midtown

Wholefish was incredible. Beyond the beautiful presentation, the Redfish was prepared perfectly. And certainly something a group could share, with several small plates to begin, this would round out a meal nicely.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Dessert at 5Church

Dessert at 5Church isnn’t to be overlooked as they put as much effort into sweets as other sections of the menu. A Peanut Butter and Jelly had a layers of chocolate and peanut butter, plus was topped with crushed peanuts, sea salt and a layer of dark chocolate. Small circles of grape jelly were sprinkled around the dish.

Twisted Chocolate with pistachio and raspberry was quite interesting. The chocolate, extruded to form the snake figure, was creamy and soft. I loved the presentation of the deconstructed dessert with powdered pistachio and chocolate. Perfect for sharing with your table mates, everyone can have their own perfect bite, adding a little or a lot of pistachio, raspberry and additional chocolate.

After what seems like a long hiatus, it is nice to see a restaurant taking over the Shout space. Though 5Church has not opened the patio yet as they are still working on the design, I know many are anxious to get out there as we transition to fall weather.
