Henry’s Louisiana Grill has new owners? Still as good?

When I heard that Chef Henry of Henry’s Louisiana Grill was selling his restaurant after nearly 25 years of ownership, I was a bit skeptical that the new owners would be able to keep up with the quality of food I’d come to know and love at Henry’s. The new owners are Casey and Justin Shillcutt and had the good fortune to have Chef Henry coaching them for several months after they purchased the restaurant.

With my Father-in-Law (a lover of Cajun cuisine) in town, I thought it would be great to check it out and see if it was still as magical as before. I also got a chance to speak with Casey. She told me that one of their signature entrees, the Crawfish Etouffee, has crawfish so fresh that they have a supplier that catches them and drives up to the restaurant several times a week.

Shortly after being seated, you’ll be brought a plate of cornbread and regular break. This cornbread is not to be missed. It is moist, sweet cornbread which makes me feel as though I am having dessert at the start of the meal. So tasty I have to stop myself from filling up on it before my entree makes its way to the table. We loved the fried shrimp and calamari to start. I even got the extra strong Manhattan cocktail which was the perfect kick off to my meal.

While Crawfish may be a staple in some Cajun cuisine it is not my favorite. My go to dish is Ooh La La! No, seriously that’s the name of the dish you need to order when you visit Henry’s Louisiana Grill. It’s been tempting me back there for years now. Think fried shrimp, oysters and crawfish, mixed together with tasso (ham) and spinach in spicy cream sauce all over angel hair pasta. See it pictured below.  I’m glad to say the OLL has always been done perfectly every time I’ve eaten at Henry’s and hasn’t let me down in my many visits. Even with the new owners taking over, the dish tastes exactly how I remember it. You can get the OLL mixed with shrimp, crawfish and oysters. But there is also the option of choosing just one, and I opt for shrimp only. And they don’t skimp out on the seafood in these dishes, which I applaud them for as many pasta dishes are more pasta than anything else. Rest assured, every ingredient gets equal representation in this dish. The dish is also offered in full and half portions. The half portion is quite generous and what I usually end up getting when I dine there.

Though the new owners have the menu the same as Henry, they have added on special item you shouldn’t miss. It’s the Banana Pudding Cheesecake. Yes, you read that right. Banana. Pudding. Cheesecake. Casey shared with me that she and her husband love the dessert so much, they served at their wedding instead of cake. It was so popular, they decided to put it on the menu at Henry’s here in Acworth and it has been a hit!

Service at Henry’s Louisiana Grill has always been great. The new owners have taken this seriously and managers still make the rounds to ensure guests are happy and satisfied. If you plan on visiting on the weekends, make a reservation as Henry’s is crazy busy on weekends. And good news, Henry’s is now open on Sundays too! Protip: ask for table 11 in the back if you want a more intimate setting away from the noise.
