Casa Coya Brings Peruvian Soul and Modern Flair to Atlanta

Atlanta’s dining scene has no shortage of Latin restaurants, but few strike the balance between tradition and modernity quite like Casa Coya. Tucked into the city’s growing culinary landscape, the restaurant offers a vibrant introduction to Peruvian cuisine while remaining approachable enough for diners who may be discovering it for the first time.

Casa Coya Dining Room

The first thing you’ll notice is the atmosphere. Rich wood tables anchor the dining room, while striking blue artwork splashed across the walls adds both energy and sophistication. The space feels polished without becoming formal, stylish without feeling staged. It’s the kind of restaurant equally suited for a date night, a celebration dinner, or a gathering of friends who can’t agree on where to eat.

That broad appeal is by design.

At the helm is an impressive young talent. Executive Chef Renzo Kuong Arrayán is only 28 years old, but his résumé already includes time working under celebrated chef José Andrés, an experience that helped shape both his technique and culinary perspective. The result is a menu rooted in Peruvian traditions but presented with confidence and creativity.

Like many Peruvian restaurants, Casa Coya offers a well-crafted Pisco Sour, the country’s iconic cocktail. Tart lime, frothy egg white, and the distinct character of pisco create a refreshing start to the meal. While it’s difficult to argue against ordering one, the cocktail menu extends far beyond Peru’s national drink, with a thoughtful collection of cocktails that showcase tropical fruits, herbs, and premium spirits, especially Mezcal. If you love the smokey spirit as much as I do, get the Milamores or Rosa Nego, both well-balanced.

Yucca and Ceviche appetizers

The menu itself encourages exploration, beginning with four different ceviche options. If you’re dining with a group or simply can’t decide, the Mixto Ceviche is an excellent place to start. Shrimp and octopus mingle with Peruvian corn, creating a combination of textures that highlights why ceviche remains one of Peru’s most celebrated culinary exports. Bright citrus, seafood sweetness, and the satisfying crunch of corn come together in a dish that feels both refreshing and substantial.

Another standout starter is the Yucas a la Huancaína. Crispy fried yuca arrives smothered in creamy Huancaína sauce and finished with queso fresco and dry botija olives. It’s a simple dish on paper, but one that demonstrates how Peruvian cuisine often transforms humble ingredients into something memorable. The contrast between the crisp exterior of the yuca and the rich, slightly spicy sauce makes it difficult to stop reaching for another bite.

Picanha

For meat lovers, the Picanha deserves serious consideration. The Brazilian-style cut arrives perfectly cooked, with a deep beef flavor that benefits from the kitchen’s careful preparation. It’s the kind of dish that doesn’t rely on elaborate presentation or complicated sauces. Instead, it lets quality ingredients and proper execution do the talking.

Of course, no discussion of Peruvian cuisine would be complete without mentioning Lomo Saltado. I’ll admit it’s never been my go-to order. Too often it can feel predictable, a safe choice overshadowed by more adventurous dishes on the menu. Casa Coya changes that equation. Here, the beef is exceptionally tender and flavorful, carrying the smoky caramelization that makes the dish so beloved throughout Peru. Every component feels intentional, transforming a familiar classic into one of the strongest entrées on the menu.

Seafood enthusiasts should take a close look at the Halibut. Served with yucca rice and Peruvian yellow sauce, the dish showcases the lighter side of the menu while still delivering plenty of flavor. The fish remains delicate and flaky, while the sauce provides richness without overwhelming the plate. It’s a thoughtful preparation that highlights the kitchen’s versatility.

One of Casa Coya’s greatest strengths is its range. While the restaurant celebrates Peruvian cuisine, it also offers a selection of steaks and heartier entrées that make it an easy choice for groups with varying tastes. The adventurous diner can dive into ceviche and seafood, while the steak lover can order a beautifully prepared cut of beef and leave equally satisfied.

That flexibility, combined with the restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere, helps explain its growing popularity. Casa Coya doesn’t ask guests to choose between authenticity and accessibility. Instead, it delivers both.

In a city where new restaurants open almost weekly, Casa Coya distinguishes itself through thoughtful execution rather than gimmicks. Between the striking dining room, the talented young chef, the carefully crafted cocktails, and a menu that balances tradition with contemporary appeal, it offers an experience that feels both familiar and fresh.

Whether you’re already a fan of Peruvian cuisine or simply looking for your next dinner reservation, Casa Coya makes a compelling case for a visit. Start with the ceviche, order the yuca, don’t skip the Pisco Sour, and arrive hungry.
