Tapa Tapa: Midtown’s New Tapas Hot Spot

Posted by

Tapa Tapa opened quietly about a year ago in the Midtown Promenade shopping center. The upscale restaurant is located next to sister restaurant, Apres Diem. Even on a Saturday evening, it was easy to score parking the large parking lot, despite the many restaurants and movie theatre in Midtown Promenade shopping center.

As I made my way towards the restaurant, I noticed several couples enjoying the lovely fall weather, dining outside. The tables are made from repurposed barrels. How adorable is that? But Tapa Tapa’s interior is so beautiful, I had to sit inside.

Tapa Tapa makes some pretty amazing craft cocktails, so though you may be tempted to delve straight into wine, make sure to get one cocktail. I recommend the Cucumber Collins or Spanish Negroni. Cocktails are reasonably priced at just about $10 each. After my cocktail, I moved on to a lovely organic Tempranillo.

Octopus at Tapa Tapa

Tapa Tapa has nearly twenty tapas to choose from. Even though these are “small plates”, I found the portions to be rather large. Two per person will fill you up, maybe three if you’re really hungry. If you love octopus Tapa Tapa has two different dishes featuring this tasty crustacean. The first, Pulpo Gallego, is prepared sauteed with minimal seasoning and just a bit of salsa verde to accompany it. The second is the Ceviche (pictured below)  with the addition of sushi grade tuna.

Dates wrapped in spanish ham and drizzled with balsamic are little bites of heaven. If there’s anything to skip, it’s the prawns. The presentation was lovely, but it just didn’t impress, overall lacking flavor. The lamb chops (see below), on the other hand, were the best of all dishes.  And Tapa Tapa has quality ones full of meat. I mean, I hate when I order lamb chops and get like three bites per chop. These are a fraction of what you’d pay at other restaurants and three meaty chops were only $11.

Lamb Chops are a must order at Tapa Tapa in Midtown

Tapa Tapa hosts monthly wine tasting events that are a steal. For just $30 you get four wines and four small plates. We started with Cava at the wine tasting and progressed into some very unusual reds. The wine tasting evenings at Tapa Tapa, which usually take place Thursday evenings are the perfect excuse for a Girls Night Out. Cheers!

Monthly wine tastings at Tapa Tapa are a killer deal!
