Barcelona Wine Bar: Cocktails, Tapas, Churros and More

If you’ve been to Barcelona Wine Bar, the Inman Park tapas spot open for about two years, you wouldn’t suspect that it is a chain. Though small as far as chains go, there are several other locations in the northeast.  The expansive space is divided into two areas. To the left is the bar with ample seating at tables and high tops as well as around the actual bar itself. To the right, is the dining area which gives good views of all the action in the kitchen.

It was quite busy on a Thursday night when I visited. I wish we spent some time at the bar nursing a cocktail or two before sitting down. It has a pretty fun vibe. And the cocktail list doesn’t look bad either. I’ve got my eye on the Aye Cukarumba made with St. Germain, Cucumber,
Lime Juice, Thai Bitters.

The charcuterie is beautiful. It’s another thing I wish we’d sampled before diving straight into tapas. But that’s not to say that the tapas we did sample didn’t fill us up.

Before we go into what I did sample, I should disclose I was invited to Barcelona Wine Bar to sample some menu items. My meal was complimentary. I talked with the manager, Sean, who helped my pick out our selections. Up first were the Patatas Bravas (potatoes covered in garlicky, spicy mayo). While I admit the presentation is beautiful, it wasn’t my favorite. Nothing was wrong with them but I feel like this is something I could easily make at home.

We also sampled a Spinach and Feta Fatayer, which is like spanakopita but with more of a crispy shell vs. flaky. A Potato Tortilla (pictured below), served with a chive sour cream, was like a delicious frittata. But my favorite were the Chroizo + Sweet and Sour figs. I love everything about the name of that dish and it totally lived up to my expectations. Unfortunately, it didn’t photograph well so there’s no picture. Still, it is a terrific choice for sharing – many hearty pieces of filling chorizo. Order a couple of this one for the table.

I’d be remiss, if I didn’t mention the Grilled Hanger Steak. At only $9.50, this is one of the best bargains on the menu! The very rare steak is served wit ha black truffle vinaigrette. It was lovely, but if you like your steak a bit more done than rare, I’d definitely let your server know before ordering this one.

We capped off our meal with Churros. These cinnamon coated dough sticks are heavenly. You don’t even need the dark chocolate dipping sauce they served with but why not indulge?

Although we had eight tapas + dessert, we were pretty full by the end of the meal. If you aren’t absolutely famished, three tapas a person would probably be adequate. If tapas aren’t your thing (but seriously, who doesn’t love tapas?) Barcelona also has Paella (choice of meat or seafood) and a mixed grill for $24.50 per person, with a minimum of two per order.
