Davios Italian Steakhouse, located at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead has been open for about two years. I’d been for lunch previously and found the spring rolls to be quite delicious. I was recently invited back to Davios to try a steak dinner. While I tried the mussels, Kobe meatball (one huge meatball for sharing), foie gras, and beet salad, I favored their signature spring rolls.

There’s a story behind them too. The spring roll was started in Davio’s Philadelphia, created initially for staff meals before and after shifts. Jonathan Craft, son of Robert Craft (owner of the New England Patriots), tried a Philly spring roll and absolutely loved it! Steve DiFillipio, owner of Davio’s, began trademarking and adding the rolls to the menu, and actually sold 5,000 on the first day of introducing into the stadium during a New England Patriots game! They have grown in popularity and variety ever since, found in select Costco and BJs around the country in various flavors, such as Buffalo Chicken and Chicken Parm, as well as found at each Davio’s location.

So, here’s how you do dinner at Davios. Share the spring rolls. You can get an assortment of two of each kind to share (as pictured above). And then split the ribeye. The ribeye is huge and has a terrific amount of marbling for optimum flavor. For sides? Forget mashed potatoes, or creamed spinach like you get at all the other steakhouse. This is an Italian steakhouse. You must get pasta as your side. Don’t visit without getting the Gnocchi. With tons of garlic, mushrooms and onions, this went perfectly with our steak. We also got a side of bolognese which was wonderful as well.

There’s a terrific wine list at Davios, so don’t forget about that either. And do save room for dessert. There were many temptations on the dessert cart. Of course you can’t go wrong with classic Tiramisu and there’s a melon panna cotta that is quite delicious too. However, the creamy vanilla ice cream with strawberries – simply magnificent.
