Sky Lounge, located in the Glenn Hotel, has a new look and a fantastic new menu.
Let’s go downtown and then head straight up, 11 stories to be exact, to the rooftop of boutique hotel and Marietta Street staple since 1923, The Glenn Hotel. Named after Atlanta’s 31st Mayor and prominent attorney, John Thomas Glenn, we declare its rooftop Sky Lounge one of Atlanta’s finest with panoramic views of the city, delicious cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, small plates, and live music to boot!
The Glenn Hotel recently had a makeover and we were invited to be the first to check out its new look. We were delighted by the updated décor, which includes new patio furniture and freshly strung overhead lights that mimic the twinkling of downtown.
If the friendly staff and the views didn’t already win me over than I’d say that moment came when I met The Glenn Hotel’s new head chef, Matthew Deckard (formerly of Cypress Street Pint & Plate), who was as modest as he was handsome. Our conversation covered that of his background and the delicious hors d’oeuvres he’d prepared for the evening as well as sport talk, as The Glenn Hotel is the go-to place for anyone checking out a professional basketball or football game in the A.
We were treated to fresh tuna tartar garnished with sesame seeds and green onions in a delicate wasabi cream sauce; miniature, deconstructed crab cakes were served with avocado and topped with a delicious remoulade. And lastly, a take on a traditional ballpark frank, this amuse-bouche was the real deal; a pinky-sized portion of thickly cut bacon resting atop a generous tablespoon of homemade pickle relish. The intention was to eat the bacon and immediately shoot the relish. What resulted was a perfect marriage of tastes that created the ultimate flavor of; you got it, a stadium hotdog!
A wonderful evening with a great staff, wonderful food and the best views! Can’t beat it. The summer menu is modest but considering the lounge was voted by Forbes Travel as one of the five best rooftop bars in Atlanta and by ABC.com as one of the “Top 23 Best Rooftop Lounges in the World” I wouldn’t miss it! You too can enjoy the Sky Lounge this summer. There will be $5 infusions, live music on Fridays and Saturdays and if you use #SkyLoungeSelfie in your “selfie in the city” the Sky Lounge will take $5 off your bill. Not too shabby!
