Firebirds Wood Fired Grill located in Avalon and is set to open a second location in Peachtree Corners.
A signature at each Firebirds location is the beautiful multi-colored bar. Here, guests can take advantage of a happy hour from Monday to Friday between 4 and 7 pm. One of the signature drinks available from Firebirds is the Double Black Diamond Martini. Made with fresh pineapple juice, it sounds much stronger than it is. I actually found it too sweet and swapped to the Black Cherry Mule, which was exquisite. I mean, why can’t my Keurig make those for me?
Firebirds’ expansive dining area has a gorgeous wall of wine bottles. These are strategically inlaid into the stack stone wall. On the opposite side is the open kitchen. But the noise level is quite reasonable. No need to shout at your dining companions to be heard.
Instead of ordering a couple appetizers, Firebirds put together a small sampling of the best appetizers for us. Wings had just a twinge of spice and were meaty. Loved the small, yet flavorful onion rings and the Ahi Tuna was prepared expertly. But my favorite was the Lobster Queso, with tasty lobster chunks in every dip of the chip.
Everyone has their favorite cut of steak / preparation right? Me? I’m a medium Ribeye, but sometimes I flirt with NY Strip. But rarely cross lines to Prime Rib. This Prime Rib however (available in 12 and 16 ounce sizes), is what I would recommend ordering over just about any dish at Firebirds. It’s spiced so perfectly, it doesn’t even need the creamy horseradish sauce served with it. I mean, my Mahi was tasty, but the Prime Rib was outstanding. They only have a limited number each day, so if you want it, tell your server when you sit down.
The wine list at Firebirds is rather large. There are generous selections of wines by the glass in each varietal and available in your choice of 5 or 8 ounce pours. And Firebirds even has their own special blends of wine. I of course, had to try their red blend and it was tasty and though bolder than a Pinot Noir, paired well with my Mahi but also great with Firebirds’ Prime Rib too.
