9 Reasons the Hamilton Hotel in Alpharetta has the perfect staycation vibes

Some may argue that a staycation is unnecessary. I’d argue that a staycation, contrary to a vacation, offers you the ability to unplug, while my “vacations” are much more busy trips where I pack in as much as I can. Here are the top reasons why Atlantans should take a staycation at Alpharetta’s Hamilton Hotel.

1. The patio – I’m in love with this patio that feels like my personal oasis

I’d been once before for the hotel’s Summer Series, which is an event that features live music and a different cuisine monthly. I do hope they’ll continue this tradition into the fall when Atlanta weather is at its best.

But that didn’t stop me from taking advantage of the gorgeous patio during my visit. Adjacent to the restaurant / bar Carrie’s Conservatory, you can grab a cocktail at Carrie’s and take a seat outside. They have table if you are dining, but I much prefer the lounge sofas. The expansive place has ample room for plenty, so you are likely to find a seat even when they are busy.

The patio at the Hamilton in Alpharetta is an oasis you won’t want to leave

I took advantage of this beautiful patio not only during happy hour, but the next day at brunch while I enjoyed a post-meal Espresso Martini and later in the day, getting lost in a book. At home, I would never allow myself such indulgences when this laundry to be done, yard work, etc. But here, less than 15 miles from home, those distractions aren’t even on the horizon.  Are you trying to see why a staycation is so relevant to self-care?

2. The exquisite rooms at Alpharetta’s Hamilton Hotel

Room at this Alpharetta hotel are huge. Our room had a spacious bathroom and although the “living area” was separate it was open to the bedroom too. The rooms come with a comfy robe for lounging which I absolutely took advantage of and even the hotel’s signature drink, the Old Fashioned, is available in by the bottle – each room comes with one.

Although the rooms are minimally appointed, they have everything you need and are decorated with modern touches like the gold finished lighting fixture and dark headboards and cupboards. Most importantly the black out curtains worked wonders for blocking out light. Can we all agree that sleeping in is one of the most important aspects of a staycation?

On our first evening there (Friday) our friends that were meeting us but were running a bit late and instead of having drinks before dinner, we just had them come up to our room. It was nice that we had a separate area to sit and chat.

3. Staff at The Hamilton Alpharetta makes you feel special

It’s the little things that make a difference, not just the big things. And it is rare when everyone you encounter at a hotel seems like they are happy to be there and truly want you to have the best experience. This is exactly how I felt, from the valet, to the front desk check-in and my server during happy hour at Carrie’s Conservatory.

4. Walking distance to all the best restaurants in Alpharetta

Ok, I’ve hammered on about the fact that a staycation is all about unplugging, unwinding and relaxing, right? To me, this also means parking your car and not having to deal with traffic, or hectic parking. And that’s exactly what you can expect at the Hamilton in Alpharetta. If you are staying for more than a couple nights, and want some variety, there are numerous restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotel. In fact, I’d argue that some of Alpharetta’s best restaurants are just blocks away from the hotel.

Two doors down from the hotel is Sorella, a lovely Italian restaurant that features tasty dishes and a wonderful wine list. An octopus starter is a must while lamb pillow pasta and the Porchetta dishes will fill you up too. We got Tiramisu to go and walked around Alpharetta. As the day was giving way to nightfall, we sat on a bench overlooking the greenspace and took in some more live music.

5. Happy Hour in Alpharetta at the Hamilton Hotel

Delicious cocktails at Alpharetta’s best Happy Hour

Some happy hours take their regular drinks and simply discount, but not at The Hamilton. They have their own happy hour menu that features fantastic cocktail. All the cocktails are priced at $12, maybe not the cheapest but definitely tasty. The best drink on the menu is Tune in Tokyo with a Japanese Vodka, green apple, and bitters. If you feel like you need something to snack on, try the wings or brussels sprouts.

6. Room service at the Hamilton Alpharetta

Room service is quick and efficient for your staycation in Alpharetta at the Hamilton

Another one of the hallmarks of a fabulous staycation is room service. Sure, when I am traveling, I want to soak up as much of the culture as possible and that includes trying the local cuisine for as many meals possible. And on a weekend that means brunch. However, the staycation vibe is totally different. Staycations are about slowing down and whether you are traveling solo or with a significant other or friends, isn’t it about reconnecting or just chilling? Room service allows you to do just that. Our room service arrived quickly – about 20 minutes after placing my order. Eggs and crispy bacon and avocado toast were just what the staycation doctor ordered. Of course, they do have a breakfast buffet in the lobby, if you prefer that.

7. Entertainment at the ground floor of the Hamilton in Alpharetta

Roaring Social speakeasy is just steps away from the Hamilton Hotel

You don’t have to venture far at all for good times at this hotel. In fact, just steps away from the front entrance is a not-so-speakeasy, Roaring Social. While they are not at all under the radar (there was a long line to get in – secret’s out!) it does have the speakeasy vibe as you’ll enter through what seems like a tailors’ shop to the bowels of the hotel and suddenly be in a huge bar that has live music. We enjoyed an 80s band but check the schedule as they have a wide variety of music genres.

8. Brunch in Alpharetta at Carrie’s

Happy hour had definitely set my expectations for a lovely Brunch at Carrie’s. And after sleeping in and waking up at our leisure, we headed to Carrie’s, which is the hotel’s bar, but also serves as their brunch spot. You can’t go wrong with the chicken and waffles or Carrie’s brunch burger (a double smashburger with American cheese). If you are super hungry get the trio of spreads which comes with a shrimp dip, buffalo chicken and hummus. I highly recommend getting a cocktail (hello Espresso Martini) and enjoying it out on the patio.

9. Live music in the courtyard of the Hamilton Alpharetta on Saturdays

While I can totally enjoy the quiet courtyard in the morning and early afternoon, it is a treat for guests of the hotel (or really anyone that wants to stop by) and listen to live music on Saturdays from 3 to 6 pm. The timing is perfect as you can sit and take in some music with plenty of time to get ready for dinner or a night out on the town. Definitely take advantage of this when you visit the Hamilton.

A romantic getaway doesn’t have to be overcomplicated or cost a ton of money – when you take a staycation and explore your backyard! Take it from me, this unique Atlanta staycation in nearby Alpharetta was just what the doctor ordered!
