Plush booths. Dark lighting. Velvet curtains. Ambiance at the Georgia Chapter Room.
Forget everything you know about Taco Mac or Tmac as they are now calling themselves. Though the Georgia Chapter Room, formerly known as the Fred Bar, is located in the basement of the Sandy Springs Taco Mac and is owned by them, the similarities end there.
The Fred Bar was a members only club, but the Chapter room is open to the public. It helps if you have a key, but not completely necessary. The comfortable plush chairs and secluded booths are quiet and make for a posh evening. It goes without saying that no kids are allowed in the Georgia Chapter Room too.
Although there are several specialty beers available, you can’t get at Taco Mac, they also have wines and cocktails. One lovely example is the Petite Collins with a fresh, citrusy taste. For wines, the list contains half a dozen each of red and white varietals, by the glass or bottle at reasonable prices.
But you really want to know about the beers, right? With about a dozen beers on draft, they range from Belgian Tripels to IPAs and there’s even a fruit beer called the Mango Magnifico brewed with not only mangos but habaneros as well. Be careful as these are mostly high gravity beers with ABV amounts averaging 8 percent or higher.
Of course, if you don’t find anything of interest on the Georgia Chapter Room’s draft menu, they’ve got a much larger list of by the bottle beers, including Stouts, Black IPAs and even a couple ciders. What’s that? You want to impress your friends? Order like a boss off the secret stash menu, which ranges from $20 to $30 each.
The bacon wrapped dates are misted with whiskey, yes misted, when they are served. The salad is made with Coppa, shaken and poured at the table, like a cocktail.
And what would a Taco Mac owned establishment be without wings? These wings are beer-brined and you can get them in mild, medium or hot. I recommend devouring them there, which shouldn’t be a problem based on how tasty they are. They just aren’t the same being heated up the next day.
A burger is served with arugula, gorgonzola cheese and beer mustard. While I enjoyed it, the wings and bacon wrapped dates over-shined the Georgia Chapter Room burger this time.
We had an incredible evening and we’ll be back! And now that the Georgia Chapter Room is open to the public, you should put it on your list of spots to hit up too!
