Kurt’s Bistro, Duluth, Atlanta, GA Restaurant Review

Posted by

Kurt’s Bistro is one of the first restaurants I visited when I started writing my book (have you picked up your copy yet??). I spent a ton of time driving all over the city to sample different restaurants and cuisines. Kurt’s Bistro, located in Duluth was kind enough to provide me with a tasting of their menu items. Kurt’s Bistro, recently changed formats a bit. From being the more informal and german-focused Kurt and Vierney’s Beer Garten to the more upscale, Kurt’s Bistro.

Chef Alex was kind enough to provide me with highlights of the menu and what he likes the best. I started things off with a beautiful Charcuterie plate. It provides a sampling of cheeses and meats. The presentation was so beautiful, I almost didn’t want to eat it and disrupt the pretty plating. Oh, and the bread! So soft and light, I ate most of it by myself. The herbed butter to spread is a nice touch but almost unnecessary as the bread is tasty and tempting all by itself.

My endive salad with blue cheese was another hit. The endives and blue cheese seem very European, which is what Kurt’s is now focused on rather than all German cuisine. There’s also a fine German beer list to compliment food, but wine and a full bar is available too, if you prefer.

For my main entree, Chef Alex insisted I try the most popular dish, Wiener Schneitzel. The is a veal cutlet pounded very thin and breaded. Note that the regular dish would include 2 cutlets, but since I was sampling, my portion was smaller. It is served up with a side of spatzle (German pasta) with lemon sauce and braised red cabbage. Don’t overlook the sides here as they are as important and tasty a part of the meal as the veal itself.

German or European cuisine may not be your go to choice when thinking of dining out, but Kurt’s Bistro is without a doubt a gem in the Atlanta area. My server, originally from Germany, has been working at Kurt’s for nearly 40 years! And they have may regular customers that can’t get enough of the German cuisine. It was evident they were only in the process of their soft opening since moving to their new location in Duluth, at the time of my visit, but even on a Wednesday night, Kurt’s was full of fun-loving patrons.
