Livingston, Midtown, Atlanta – a terrific hotel restaurant with killer cocktails

Located directly across the street from the Fox Theatre, you’ll find the beautiful Livingston restaurant inside the Georgian Terrace hotel. Note that if dining there you’ll need to valet but Livingston will gladly validate your parking.

On the evening I dined at Livingston, it was mostly hotel guests dining solo. That’s a shame as the restaurant is lovely. Locals should be enjoying it too. It would make for a fabulous date night. The building itself is historic and has lovely details. But the restaurant is well appointed and my favorite part about Livingston? It’s quiet. I have been to soooo many restaurants lately where my husband and I just quit talking to each other during dinner because it was so loud.

But Livingston isn’t like that at all. Tables are set far apart enough that you won’t have to hear a noisy party while enjoying your meal. Plus the bar area on the other side is closed off enough that bar patrons won’t spoil your dinner conversation either.

You can’t miss this spectacular view from the lobby of the Georigan Terrance, but don’t miss The Bruja cocktail at Livingston either

If you enjoy cocktails, get The Bruja at Livingston. The tequila based cocktail comes with grapefruit lime sour, Strega, salt and thyme. When I say this cocktail is well-balanced, I mean it is perfectly balanced. Normally, I’d swap to wine with my meal, but this cocktail was so superb, I had to have another.

The cocktail was so magical, I had to look up the ingredients. It sounded pretty basic, except for the “Strega” which I wasn’t familiar with. Apparently it is made with saffron, which gives it it’s lovely yellow tint and about 70 other ingredients which include cinnamon, juniper, mint and nutmeg. Ah! Where has this aperitif been all my life? “Strega” is the Italian word for “witch,” so given the tequila in the drink, it is fitting they swapped it to “Bruja” which is the Spanish word for “witch.” I’ll definitely be seeking out this liqueur in future cocktails.

A roasted beet salad served with candied pecans, lemon oil, burrata cheese lived up to its reputation, the burrata so light but still deliciously creamy. I’ve had pork belly so much that nowadays I’m rarely wowed by it. However at Livingston, they serve theirs smoked and serrano spiced along with a balsamic vidalia onion marmalade. If this was the only other thing I ate all night I’d have gone home happy. Pictured the top are these items (the restaurant split them for us when we told them we’d share everything). I wish they hadn’t as the picture would have been prettier.

Blackened trout with jalapeno grits and celery root puree

A blackened trout is pictured above, and is a good option for a tasty yet healthy dish, but if you are in the mood for steak, get the ribeye! My husband usually can’t remember dishes from restaurants from one to the other, but he’s still talking about this ribeye a month later.
