Nestled in the heart of Buckhead, Atlanta, Lucian Books and Wine is a delightful trifecta that seamlessly blends the love of literature, the art of wine tasting, and the pleasure of dining into one cohesive experience. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted by an ambiance that feels both intimate and sophisticated, a reflection of the thoughtful curation behind this unique establishment. Whether you’re a book lover, a wine enthusiast, or a foodie, Lucian offers something that will captivate your senses and leave you longing for your next visit.

A Literary Haven

Lucian Books and Wine is not just a restaurant with books on display; it’s a full-fledged bookstore that boasts a carefully selected collection of culinary-focused books. The shelves are lined with everything from classic cookbooks to contemporary food essays, providing a treasure trove of inspiration for both amateur home cooks and seasoned chefs alike.

The selection of books is as curated as the menu, with titles that delve into the intricacies of cuisine, wine, and the art of dining. Whether you’re interested in the history of French cooking or the latest trends in modern gastronomy, there’s something here that will pique your interest. The staff is knowledgeable and eager to help you find the perfect book to pair with your meal or take home for a leisurely read. The fusion of a literary experience with a culinary journey sets Lucian apart from other dining destinations, making it a must-visit for anyone who enjoys the written word as much as they do a fine meal.

A Wine Lover’s Paradise

Lucian’s wine program is nothing short of spectacular. The wine list is extensive yet approachable, featuring an array of carefully selected bottles from both well-known regions and lesser-known gems. Whether you’re a connoisseur or a casual drinker, the staff at Lucian is adept at guiding you through the selection, ensuring that you find the perfect pairing for your meal. Our server was lovely at recommending the perfect reds to compliment a steak and duck entree. She even found the perfect red for our Chocolate budino with pistachio.

The wine offerings span the globe, with a focus on natural and biodynamic wines that reflect the terroir from which they originate. The selection is ever-evolving, providing regulars with new and exciting options to explore with each visit. From crisp whites that are perfect for sipping on a warm Atlanta evening to robust reds that complement the heartier dishes on the menu, there is a wine for every palate.

It is definitely a haven for a wine lover as the wine list is more of a book with bottles going as high as $1,000! The wine list is complemented by a selection of craft beers and artisanal cocktails, ensuring that there is a beverage to suit every taste. Of note, even if you are just looking for a spot to have a drink before or after a meal elsewhere you can and should make a reservation at the bar, especially if you plan on visiting during a busy weekend.

A Culinary Experience to Savor

While the books and wine are certainly a draw, the real star of the show at Lucian is the food, most notably the appetizers. The menu is interesting in that it mostly consists of small plates with only a few main dishes. But I usually find that I like the apps more anyway. The oysters are a must-try, served sans any crackers or sauces, simply with a mint sauce that is perfectly unique. For those who prefer something with a bit more bite, the hamachi tuna is a standout. With peach, ginger and basil, it is like summer in your mouth.

The beef tartare, another popular starter, is a testament to the skill and creativity of the kitchen. The finely chopped beef is mixed with grape tomatoes, chili and crisp rice. I really didn’t taste the strong beef flavor you usually get with a tartare, but I suppose that is why it was mixed with rice and chili. Though those flavors didn’t standout, this dish was much lighter and more delicate than other tartare I’ve had before. Another departure is that this wasn’t served with crackers or anything else, though your server will bring out some lavosh crackers if you ask.

When it comes to entrées, Lucian has a small menu consisting of Swordfish, Duck and NY Strip. The menu isn’t separated out by app or entree, so I suppose the caviar topped omelette or Pappardelle could be considered an entree as well. The NY Strip has delicious creamy greens served alongside it but the succulent duck was my favorite with a carrot and plum that added a bit of sweetness.

The dessert menu is a fitting end to the meal, and not to be overlooked. A Pistachio topped Budino is perfect, especially if you LOVE red wine, have an extra glass and sip on it with this rich dessert. If you want something more on the sweet side, Lucian’s Toffee Pudding is the way to go. It’s small, so you may need to order two, but it sure is decadent.
