Reformation Brewery is located in Woodstock, GA. I caught with owners Nick Downs and Spencer Nix to discuss their brewery, beer laws and what Reformation is all about.
What made you want to start a brewery?
I (Nick) fly for Delta and started bringing back fantastic beers from all my travels. Then I started home brewing. My home brews became so popular I had people camping out on my lawn to try them. So, we decided to start a brewery and a little over a year ago in October 2013 we opened Reformation.
Where did the name Reformation come from?
We named it because of Martin Luther, an iconic figure in Protestant Reformation. He often invited students back to his home to have conversations about life, theology and more while sipping on his wife’s home brewed ale. We wanted to foster these same discussions in a welcoming atmosphere.
What’s unique about your beers?
Normal beers sit on yeast for just a week. Ours sit on yeast for about three weeks.
What’s New?
Our Stark Porter is made with toasted coconut. The coconut comes from a chef located not too far away. He toasts the coconut in his restaurant kitchen for us.
Where can we find your beers for sale?
Our beers are on tap at several restaurants in the Atlanta area including Taco Mac, Foundation Social Eatery and Muss & Turners among being available at Growler stores.
