On a chilly November evening, the open-air lot is filled up by 5:30 at Forsyth’s Halcyon. After parking on the deck, I saw why groups of middle-aged women were walking around with little maps on a scavenger hunt around the property.
Best Restaurants in Halcyon
Restaurants in Halcyon were full, especially the new brewpub Cherry Street. Residents of nearby Johns Creek, Cumming and Alpharetta are obviously stoked about this new entertainment venue in their neighbourhood!
You’ll find both full-service and quick counter-service restaurant options serving lunch, dinner, desserts, coffee, wine, and beer! Enjoy a quick lunch in the Market Hall or relax after work with a beer from Cherry Street. Healthy dining options abound too and get your sweet fix at Popbar, Kilwins and It’s a Sweet Life bakery.
The Market Hall at Halcyon

Similar to the likes of Krog Street Market is Halcyon’s scaled-down version. Pita Street Food is there with its combo meals of gyros, falafel and much more.
You can also find Tocayo serving up two-bite tacos, or Sweet Tuna with their take on hearty poke bowls. I’ve tried all three and they do not disappoint! Plus, if you are looking for a quick, reasonably healthy meal that is around ten bucks, the Market Hall is a great place to find it.
Adjacent to the hall is Land of a Thousand Hills coffee. It’s a terrific spot for a meeting if you are in the area or are waiting to meet someone and don’t want to spend your time window-shopping at Halcyon.
The best food though, at the Market Hall in Halcyon is by far Gu’s Dumplings. I could eat my weight in those dumplings they are so delicious! Soft with the perfect amount of oil and spice, it’s no wonder they have a steady stream of customers every time I am there!
Halcyon’s Brewpub – Cherry Street
One of the anchor spots at Halcyon is Cherry Street Brewing. Beer is brewed on site (you can’t miss the front and centre of the big tank), and the brewpub is literally smack dab in the centre of Halcyon.
It is incredibly popular, even on weeknights, so if you plan to go during the weekend, make sure to go early or be prepared to wait. For warmer months, the Halcyon brewpub also has a beer garden just outside for additional seating. For food options, you can expect to find pizzas, pigs in a blanket, and other types of gastropub fare.
Sweets at Halcyon Forsyth
There’s Popbar serving up gelato pops, Kilwins Ice cream and It’s a Sweet Life Bakery. So there’s no shortage of spots to get your sweet tooth fix when you visit Halcyon.
Ocean & Acre – The Best Dining at Halcyon in Forsyth!
If you love seafood like me, you definitely need to visit Ocean & Acre! Walking in, there’s a magnificent raw bar where you can sit and have a cocktail. Or just head to your table right away. The cocktails are lovely, so definitely plan to have a couple of pre dining.
They even have interesting and delightful mocktails too! If you’re with a group and want to splurge, you may want to consider the seafood tower with oysters, clams, shrimp and crab! Of course, you can’t miss out on their version of a crab cake made with vermicelli noodles (below right)!
Though I pretty much stuck to all seafood on my second visit with crab cakes, clam croquettes, halibut and a lobster roll, we did enjoy the lamb belly immensely! Served with a polenta cranberry side it was just what the doctor ordered on a cold night in Atlanta…er…Forsyth.
Other freestanding restaurants in Halcyon include Butcher and Brew (their original location is in Alpharetta on Main Street) and CT Cantina Taqueria.
For Butcher and Brew, this location in Forsyth’s Halcyon is bigger than the original. The food is terrific with items like pork rinds and spicy cauliflower. And of course, find many local brews on tap here.
At CT Cantina, order the chef’s choice which means you pick your meats and they pick which special ingredients will complement it best. They have a house-special cucumber margarita if you like sweet, but I’d recommend the traditional margarita. Oh and there’s a lovely heated patio – get there early to snag a seat by the fireplace!
Shopping at Halcyon
Several retailers are located in Halcyon. I really enjoyed visiting Apricot Lane and found a couple of reasonably priced items there. There are also other stores like Lizard Thicket, and Canoe (hailing from Blue Ridge) with a collection of bags, jewellery and other household items. Other retailers include Totally Running and Walking and Dogtopia.
Events at Halcyon Forsyth
They take full advantage of the green space at Halcyon through the fall. Saturday mornings at 9 am feature regular fitness classes which include yoga, pilates, Zumba, and boot camp.
If you are a pup parent, bring your pooch to Yappy Hour. It takes place Tuesday evenings from 5 pm – 7 pm at various dog-friendly patios in Halcyon and you can pick up free doggy treats!
Keep up with all the events at Halcyon, including free concerts on the Halcyon website.
This is fantastic news for residents of Cumming, Johns Creek and Alpharetta. Now you have even more fun places to shop, dine and play in Forsyth! Halcyon is just getting started and it seems everyone in the community loves them. We can’t wait to see more places and green space added!
